Publications and Blogs
In the gaps between larger projects, I take on writing assignments – most of them self-instigated. With a particular journal or publication in mind, I choose topics that I’m curious about and want to explore in-depth such as cross-disciplinary projects or people whose work is under-recognized. My writing includes original photographs and ranges from profiles of individual artists, designers and projects, to technical pieces about new technologies.
Landscape Architecture (LAM) magazine published a series of my pieces including profiles of artists Brad Goldberg and Athena Tacha who work across disciplines. Another article for LAM describes collaborative relationships between artists and landscape architects including Ann Hamilton and Michael Mercil with Michael Van Valkenburgh for Teardrop Park in New York City, and Jody Pinto and Igancio Bunster Ossa of Wallace, Roberts, Todd LLC for the Santa Monica Promenade.
I also contribute to professional journals, and a textbook, The Practice of Public Art, Cameron Chartiere and Shelly Willis, Ed. New York, Routledge, 2008 features my essay “The Millennium Park Effect: A Tale of Two Cities.” The essay examines the public/private partnership that produced Chicago’s Millennium Park and explores its implications for the field of public art.
I have added blogging to my writing efforts including Travel Log #1: James Corner Field Operations Coast to Coast - New York, Minneapolis, Santa Monica.
